Where Siam Garden once stood rises Cafe Chili

Cafe Chili opened recently at the intersection of Bergen and Court. The owners, who have occupied the space for 22 years (previously as Siam Garden), went a little wild with the design, giving it the air of an Ian Schrager hotel in Las Vegas. Andrew, the owner/manager, told me his wife is an architect and she designed the space. They did some serious work in there. Still, its a good blend of fashion and substance. The entrance is lined with tables for 2 or 4. In the rear, there are two primo tables for larger parties. One is surrounded by glass purple beads hanging from the ceiling. The other is lined by white leather couches. They should turn this place into a club after dinner. The pad thai was excellent ….one of the best I’ve had in the neighborhood. The vegetable pancake was less interesting. The veggie curry was tasty, but thin on ingredients. Strangely, the menu also includes some American and Italian fare. Hmm? Overall, the food was good, not great….I’d say 3.5/5. The staff still needs to work some kinks out of the new system, but all in all, its a good addition to the neighborhood.
