Gravy’s Gone Fishin’, Trout Takes Over
Josh Guttman | October 30, 2007
This news is a tad dated by now, but Trout has expanded into the space next-door where diner cum swanky homestyle dig, Gravy, once lived. My sources tell me the owner (of both) was making more money at Trout so he turned the entire corner into a kitchy crab shack. The new menu is comprehensive with a heavy emphasis on seafood. Early reports indicate the food is “Okay, but a little pricey for what you get.” Though, this isn’t surprising from the expansion of an operation whose previous culinary endeavors consisted of hamburgers and hot dogs on paper plates. I think the expansion is a smart move. Gravy was a restaurant without a soul and a larger Trout adds more character to the neighborhood. And now, with a complete menu, it’s an even better place to drink.

Nice one!
Thanks for the tip on that one Erin!!
Hey, speaking of fish and restaurants, does anyone want to get up a BergenCarroll outing down to Sheepshead Bay on one of the party boats to fish for the most hard-fighting and delectable blackfish (aka tautog)?
Charles at Grocery said blackfish is one of his favorites to cook, and if we catch enough, maybe he’ll create a special.
Sea bass (our native black species, not the arriviste and tasteless Chilean interloper that’s flooded the market in recent years) and equally tasty porgies inhabit the same fishing grounds as the blackfish, so they’ll probably be mixed in the catch.
So far, Mario has said he’ll go … we can all take the F together one fine morning or meet down in Sheepshead bay.
This weekend or the next would be the ideal day to go…

If more people went fishing in the waters off NY or New England (don’t ever call it deep sea fishing — we’ll know you’re from out of state, it is simply fishing here) you will never need any of these silly drugs.
