Red Deli Gets a Fresh Coat of Paint and New Owner
Josh Guttman | December 12, 2007
The Red Deli on Verandah and Clinton is nearing the final touches of a massive makeover. Inside the previously run-down space, they’ve installed new terra cotta floors, a sparkling white tin ceiling and a new tile kitchen. The exterior has been patched up and painted and a new coat of glistening red paint invites would-be customers. “What is it going to be?” seems to be the most frequent question posed by passers by. Well the answer is (drum roll please) a new deli!! Charlie Statelman, who runs Cafe on Clinton two doors away, is taking over the space in a few weeks and putting together a Provence style deli with sandwiches, fruits and ready-to-go food and lunch options. At last check, no decision had been made on coffee/cappuccino.

I wouldn’t call the prior space “run down” at all! I’ll miss that joint.
Yes - it was nice and I also enjoyed the sandwiches and cheeses, but be happy you never looked under the hood:) Sanitization wasn’t one of his strengths.
Oh, I was a nut for (well, I’m always a nut but that’s beside the point) their gazpacho in the summer. Maybe the new place will have gazpacho too?
as long as the new owner thinks he can use Verandah place as a parking space, he won’t see a dime of mine. such arrogance. never liked the last owner either. we deserve better.
There’s a death watch on the new Cafe on Clinton. It’ll be gone by Spring.
