New Poll: You, the customers, create the Red Deli’s new menu
Josh Guttman | December 18, 2007
Renovations of the Red Deli on Cobble Hill Park are nearly complete and the new owners are putting together the menu now. This is your chance to speak up and let them know what you liked most about the previous deli - your favorite dishes and treats - and perhaps, what you didn’t like so much. Personally, I was a big fan of the salmon, seaweed and cole slaw sandwich on ciabatta roll, but that’s just me. I was also a big fan of the homemade hot chocolate in the winter. From what I understand, new management is still undecided on whether to serve espresso drinks or just plain coffee? Let them know what you think by casting a vote in the new poll. You can select two.

I liked the whole chickens that you can just heat up at home, and the gazpacho in the summer. I also liked some of the hot soups/stews.
fresh-carved ham sandwiches on homemade ciabatta
the cinnamon croissants
nice-quality tea bags
good candy options
I would like a good selection of a wonderful treat that evokes our original Dutch settlers: Cole Slaw!
I’d love homemade fine shredded but also Carolina coleslaw, which is made with wider slices of cabbage, oil and just a touch of sugar in lieu of mayonnaise.
Polenta slices would also be nice in the winter.
Nothing can beat that hand-carved ham.
I would LOVE it if the deli carried some gluten free options, either in sandwiches or baked goods etc, that could appeal to me and the rest of the brooklyn population with the growing allergy to wheat.
i just got our local bar floyd to stock a wheat free beer and it got posted on lots of blogs, so new deli owners…if you cater to the gluten-free world, there’ll be lots of hype and blog buzz for your re-opening!
This new owner is a genius. He reopens Cafe on Clinton with NO REGARD for the neighborhood and for what came before. Then he grabs the Red Deli and ASKS the neighborhood to create his menu!
He must have learned his lesson as the new Cafe on Clinton is sinking quicker than the Titanic.
Time to have someone do the work for him.
Genius.
